As usual, four ghosts give you a hard time, but you can deal with them by collecting one of four yellow power pills and hunting them down. No longer does Pac gobble up dots, but eats food instead, and the food is stored inside passages which must be unlocked with the keys scattered around the maze. Originally released in 1982, it featured some modified gameplay not seen in previous games. Super Pac-Man is the second game in the Pac-Man Series that features Pac-Man himself. The object of these stages is to eat everything in the maze before the time runs out and, during these stages, there will be no ghosts to pursue him. Occasionally, after three or more stages, there will be a bonus stage where Pac automatically gets enlarged. If Pac manages to eat the star when they match there will be a large bonus score. The first box will display the current fruit or prize, and the other will display a rotating selection of them. During the time that he is enlarged, a flashing star will appear besides two boxes that are located in the middle of the maze. The effects of the pellets, unfortunately, only last for a number of seconds. He can also break open the doors without the need of keys. Yellow power pellets cause ghosts to turn blue, allowing Pac to eat them for points, whereas green ones cause Pac to enlarge and will also cause the ghosts to become much thinner and wider, allowing him to fly over them. There are two types of power pellets in the maze: green and yellow. However, Pac can enter the warp tunnels at either side of the maze to lose the ghosts quickly. As usual, ghosts will keep chasing Pac around the maze until he has lost all his lives. Most of these items are hidden in passages that have locked doors at either entrance, and in order to unlock the doors, Pac needs to eat the key that is closest to the passage that he wishes to unlock. The Enhanced Mode is a fine addition, but I definitely preferred just sticking to the regular game.Super Pac-Man is a game in Namco's Pac-Man family, but instead of gobbling up dots, Pac is required to eat fruit and prizes, such as apples, bunches of bananas, doughnuts, hamburgers, fried eggs, ears of corn, sneakers, pieces of cakes, raspberries, limes, cups of coffee, mushrooms, Galaxians, bells, and shamrocks. Pac can pick up tiny icons floating in the mazes to help him out, such as freezing ghosts and creating a mirror image of Pac to confuse his spectral foes. Namco added some extra goodies specific to the mobile edition, such as Enhanced Mode, which offers power-ups not found in the arcade game. Between several levels, you get bonus screens where you are giant the entire time and have to eat all of the fruit before the lock runs out. In later levels, your "big sessions" get shorter and shorter, and you really have to be smart about collecting keys. In the early levels, you can actually plow through the entire maze by eating the four super power pellets at strategic intervals. Some keys only unlock one door in a chamber with multiple portals, leaving you to either seek out the other keys to open up the entire passage or risk going in and eating the fruit, hoping a ghost doesn't follow you. Eating certain keys unlock different doors in the maze, and as you progress higher in the levels, the unlocked doors occur farther away from their respective keys. It is a pretty big difference from other Pac-Man games. The locked door system is usually what throws people off.
